People follow and support nonprofits because they are interested in the cause and want to to be part of something larger than themselves. Help them feel part of the seasonal flow of your work.

Ospreys are returning to the Chesapeake Right On Time!
Ospreys are returning to the Chesapeake Right On Time!

For instance, the Osprey's have returned from their winter migration to the upper Chesapeake, just in time for St. Patrick's Day. Naturalists believe that when the Osprey's return is a better indicator of an early or late spring then Punxsutawney Phil. The famous groundhog predicted a late spring, but the Osprey's showed up exactly on time, which predicts an average start to spring.

So, if you are an environmental organization, post about the Osprey's return with a link about their amazing migration. For instance, this one from the Chesapeake Bay Program: https://www.chesapeakebay.net/discover/field-guide/entry/osprey

Every Cause Has It's Seasons

However, each cause has it's own ins and outs. If you care about feeding the hungry, late spring is an important preparation time because when school ends, so does free breakfast and lunch programs for children. Trying to secure access to food over the summertime for children is a yearly challenge.

Did you Know?

Approximately one-quarter of all ospreys in the contiguous United States nest in the Chesapeake Bay region.

Maybe your cause is to prevent alcoholism and drug overdoses. St. Patrick's Day is a major trigger for heavy drinkers. However, it is also an opportunity for them to get the help they need to become sober.

Make sure you help new supporters to your cause (and remind existing ones), by explaining some of the basics about your cause, so they feel "in the know". This is also helpful because people are excited to share information they just learned, so they are more likely to share information about your nonprofit and its cause with friends and family.
